With the start of a new ferry service between the
Turkish port of
Tasucu and Tripoli in Lebanon we took
the opportunity to visit Lebanon.
Beirut is a fascinating city, largely rebuilt since
the troubles of 20/30 years ago with a very
sophisticated new 'downtown' built in the 'Old Beirut'
style. Fashion houses from every corner of the world are
represented here together with many internationally
famous stores. It will not be long before Beirut
takes back it's 'Paris of the East' title.
Modern day Beirut is as cosmopolitan, affluent and westernized
as it ever was. the wealth of the city is apparent on
the roads with every other vehicle being an upmarket
SUV. Restaurants abound, the nightlife is vibrant and
shopping is a delight.
